An update on life with LB

LB is going to be 6 weeks old in a couple of days (time really flies!) and I thought it was about time to provide an update on life with LB.

Although at first I wasn’t so sure about her, I can honestly say that I love her more every day. She’s moving out of the whole “Eat-Sleep-Poop” stage and into the “Eat-Sleep-Poop-Awake Time” stage, which is exciting. She has started to really smle back at you, which has to be one of the most gratifying, heart-melting things ever.

Isn’t that the best smile ever?!?

She absolutely loves her daddy and has the biggest grin on her face whenever he “roughs her up.” (This involves a complicated process of the rubby rubby, the eely eely, and the drummy drummy – I have attempted to replicate this when we are home alone and she’s not having it. There is no substitute for daddy!)

The eely eely

She’s a super chunk (well over 11 lbs!) and is currently taking about 4.5 oz of formula every 3 hours. She will do her best to talk me into giving her more. I have fallen for this once or twice, only to regret it later when she spits it all back up. I know now that she is a glutton and just wants to suck on something, so the pacifier is definitely our friend.

You may remember the whole “Does she need new formula?” dilemma of last week. I’m happy to report that she doesn’t seem to have any more problems with the Similac that we’re using. She is fussy at her 9:00 bottle, but I think that’s just normal end-of-the-day tiredness and not tummy troubles. {Luckily for me, DB always gives her that bottle while I head off to dreamland! :)}

She’s a pretty good sleeper at night (other than the grunting!) – we put her down to sleep after her 9:00 bottle and she’ll sleep until 3 or so before she wakes up hungry. Some nights, we’ve gone until 3:45! After that bottle, she’ll go back to sleep until 6 or so. The 6:00 am bottle is my favorite of the day – she’s all sweet and sleepy, I’ve got my coffee, my kitty, my daughter, and my iPad (not in order of importance!), and we’ve got the whole day stretching before us with its infinite possibilities.

LB is not a big napper during the day, however – bummer for me, I know. She’ll do little cat naps at this point, maybe an hour here or there, but so far she doesn’t have a consistent nap schedule. Perhaps we should be working on establishing a nap routine, but I figure it’s good to get her used to sleeping whenever she needs to and wherever we happen to be. This may come back to bite me in the ass at some point, but we’ll see…

All in all, I feel like we know each other a lot better now and that helps us with our routine. I’m still not at the point that she cries and I can immediately say, “Oh, that’s her sleepy cry” or “That’s her ‘I’m cold’ cry.” (This could be due, in large part, to the fact that she really only cries when she’s hungry – I’ve got that cry down pat!) I know the next 6 weeks are huge as far as her development and maturity goes – I can’t wait to see what she’s capable of by the time she’s 12 weeks old. I’m really looking forward to when she can sit up on her own and watch what we’re doing (and yes, I know that sitting up on her own isn’t for months and months – she could be a really early bloomer!!). As it is, we’re taking it day by day and I’m trying to soak up the moments that take my breath away because I know I’ll never get them back.

So on that note, I’m going to go spend more time with our daughter and less time blogging about her…
