When good beer goes bad

The DreadBrewer and I have recently experienced our first completely failed batch of beer. The fact that we’ve been doing this for years and have had just this one bad batch does nothing to assuage our feelings of failure and angst at having to toss nearly 5 gallons of beer.

Either we pitched way too much yeast or we got contaminated by wild yeast or something. But our whole batch of Ranger turned into gushers.

Naturally I had to take some pictures so that I could show you all what happens when good beer goes bad.

I’ve also got a little video clip so you can see what we mean when we say “gusher.” ((Not that these are very enthusiastic gushers. They’re actually giving gushers a bad name with their lackadaisical gushing.))

We’ve had beer before that has not turned out to our liking, but this is the first time we’ve had one turn out as a total flop and have to be dumped. Let’s hope its the last time as well! Looks like I’ll be even more vigorous than usual with the StarSan this weekend!

I love comments! Feel free to leave one!
