This past weekend, we took the Littlest Brewster to the NC Zoo for her very first visit!
Mike, Sarah, and Alex joined us and Grandy (DB’s Mom) for a half-day excursion to look at the animals and walk around a bit. Because it’s June in North Carolina (read: hot), we got there right after the zoo opened to get an early start and beat the heat. There was already a line to get in at that hour, so we knew it was going to be crowded. ((When we left around noon, the line had tripled at least. I wanted to tell all those people waiting to get in to the horrendously crowded, blazingly hot zoo that they were crazy and they should turn around and come back tomorrow at 9 am. I managed to restrain myself.))
LB and Alex were both SO good the entire time – I was really proud of them! I don’t think either of them cried once all day (not bragging, just saying).
The Littlest Brewster loved all of the animals and kept saying, “Mine! Mine” like we would let her take a polar bear home with her. The most annoying parts of the day were a) waiting to get a spot near the front for her in her stroller and b) taking her in and out of the stroller over and over when we finally gave up on the idea of getting the stroller close to the animals.
Even though we started early, by 11:30 we were done. All of the adults were tired and everyone was hot and hungry. And we had only done half the park! Nobody wanted to pay the exorbitant prices for crappy zoo food, so we called it a day and headed out to Chili’s up the road. Where the kids were still amazingly well behaved, even despite the fact that it took forever to actually get anything to eat. Our plan is to go back in the fall to take the Littlest Brewster to the other half of the zoo ((Africa, if you’re interested. We made it through North America this visit. I can’t wait until we go back in and take the Littlest Brewster to feed the giraffes!)).
Here are some pictures from the day!
Somehow, I made it through the day without getting a single picture of Alex! He’s so big and so handsome that I’ll have to get Sarah to send me some so I can remedy the situation and show everyone what a cutie he is! (It must run in the family. 🙂 )
