Every day and in every way, I am getting better and better.

(Kudos to whoever can identify the movie where that quote appears.)

Okay, so not every day and in every way, but I am definitely getting better and better at running!

This morning was the Cary Roundabout 5K to dedicate the new roundabouts ((They probably should have included a demonstration on how to use a roundabout as North Carolina drivers are constantly baffled by them. It’s not that hard, people. You just always go to the right. And you don’t have to stop, just yield as appropriate.Jeez…)) . I decided to run it a) because it was really cheap, as far as races go and b) I wanted to see if I could improve upon my time from last race.

And I did!

Well, I’m pretty sure I did.

My major pet peeve with this race was that the recreational runners (read: me) didn’t get a timing chip. That’s not usually a big deal because there’s a large timer over the finish line. Usually. But not today. There was a plain old clock, which also wouldn’t have been that a big of a deal if I had paid attention to the time when we started. But I didn’t because there was supposed to be a timer! Gah!!!!

However, I know we started at 8:06 or so and I ran through at 8:33 or so. Which would put my time at 27 minutes!!! ((I also have additional support in that a gentleman called out the time as 17:30 at the 2 mile mark and I’m fairly certain my pace was consistent the whole race.)) Though I will definitely be timing my next race myself so this never happens again.

I am totally stoked with my run today. And I feel like I’ve earned the beers that the DreadBrewer and I are going to consume at the Flying Saucer this afternoon. Well, maybe one of the beers. The rest will just have to be drunk on calorie credit. 🙂
