Storytime with the Littlest Brewster

Here’s a snapshot of storytime with the Littlest Brewster:

Me: What story do you want?
LB: Three little pigs!
Me: Okay! “Once upon a time, there were three little pigs who loved to eat all the delicous food their mother made them. And soon they grew so big that one day they had to leave home and build new houses for themselves. The first little pig met a farmer pulling a cart full of straw. He said, “Please may I buy some straw to build a house?” And the farmer said, “Certainly! But a house built of straw won’t be very strong.” But the first little pig didn’t listen. And in no time at all, his house of straw was finished and he lay down to take a nap. He had just shut his eyes when there was a knock at the front door (knock knock knock on the wall) – it was the Big Bad Wolf! And he was hungry!
“Little pig, little pig, let me in!” he said, his tummy grumbling very loudly with hunger.
“No way!” cried the little pig. “Not by the hair on my chinny chin chin!”
“Then I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow your house in!” cried the wolf. And that’s just what he did.

Meanwhile, the second little pig met a woodcutter piling up sticks. “Please may I buy some sticks to build a house?” asked the second little pig. “Certainly!” said the woodcutter. “But a house made of sticks will soon fall down.” But the second little pig didn’t listen. And soon his house of sticks was finished.

LB: We already did that part!
Me: What part?
LB: The nap part!!!!
Me: Okay, fine.  Well then,… “soon there was a knock at the door. (knock knock knock on the wall.) “Little pig, little pig, let me in!” said the Big Bad Wolf!”
Me: What?!
Me: I know! It happens three times! It’s a different pig!
LB: No! He already knocked! We already did that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Commence crying.)
Me: Do you want me to get Daddy to tell you a story?
LB: (Sobbing hysterically) YES!!!!
Me: (with glee) Oh daddy!!!!

And now you know why the minutes between 7:45 and 8:00 are the hardest 15 minutes of the day…
