This morning the whole gang, including Buppa (my dad) and Grandma Kathy, came out to cheer me on in my first postpartum 5K, the Furry 5K benefiting Second Chance Pet Adoptions.
I haven’t been making it to the gym as frequently as I would like lately and I knew I wasn’t in prime running shape. Hell, I’m a far cry from being where I was last summer when I was doing races fairly frequently. But I wanted to get one under my belt and get a jumping off point.
I told myself that I wouldn’t be upset, no matter what my time was. And that I would walk when I needed to (not if, as I knew walking at some point was a given.) And that the important thing was getting out there and doing it.
Which I did. 🙂
I walked a lot more than I had anticipated, but treadmill running (which I’ve been doing) is vastly different from outside running (which I haven’t been doing). But I’m proud to say that I was only passed by three runners with dogs from the “5K with dogs” that started 5 minutes after my “5k without dogs”. My final time of 32:03 certainly isn’t something to sneeze at. And I’m just proud that I got my butt out there and got a race done and added to my ever-growing collection of race T-shirts.
Here are some pictures from the day:
I’m excited to see how I’ll do in the Lung Cancer Initiative’s 5K on November 1st. I’m just going to keep improving from here. 🙂
