I have a sinus infection, a pretty yucky one that I fought for a good 4 days before finally succumbing Sunday night.
But before you feel sorry for me, what with my congestion and my headache and my other ailments, I have something to tell you.
The last two days have been better than a vacation. Way better.
This may sound crazy, because who wants to be sick? Who enjoys being under the weather?
I don’t actually.
But my primary care doctor essentially ordered me home and into bed for 48 hours to get some rest. I even have a note to prove it.
So for the first time in a looooong time, I did what I should be doing to take care of me and I did NOTHING. All day yesterday and most of the day today. I was positively slothful. I finished a book. I took a few naps. I finished another book. I messed around on the computer and finished the yearly calendars for the girls. I started a third book. (I’m a really fast reader.)
It was glorious.
With the girls at daycare and the DreadBrewer at work, I finally had an opportunity to really, truly rest.
And it was better than a vacation because I didn’t have to pack and I didn’t have to spend any money (besides on antibiotics and probiotics and Emergen-C and Sudafed, at least) and I didn’t have to go anywhere to do it.
I think I may be on to something. I may just have to pencil in a miscellaneous ailment every few months, rather than trying to get away for an actual vacation, in order to get some real rest. It’s certainly cheaper than a plane ticket.
